What should I do if I am thinking about harming myself?
You might be having thoughts of cutting or scratching yourself. Thoughts of self-harm can be difficult to deal with alone, which is why it’s important that you seek help.
If you are thinking about harming yourself, it’s important that you talk to someone about it. Telling someone is often the first step to feeling better, and you’ll hopefully feel relieved once you’ve said it out loud. You may be able to talk to your parents, your teacher, or another adult you trust. There is help to be had from professionals who know a lot about self-harm—maybe a psychologist or your doctor. You can also call the Lifeline (Livslinien) at (+45) 70 201 201.
It is also possible that you are already hurting yourself now, and you can get help from your doctor to deal with it if you already self-harming. You can also find a psychologist yourself.
If you feel unsure about what to say to those who are supposed to help you, here are some examples:
· I’m thinking about hurting myself
· I need help. I'm afraid I'm going to do something stupid
· I have visited a website that advises me to ask for help
For example, if you talk to a psychologist about self-harm, they will want to hear about how you feel and what is on your mind. Maybe your sexual thoughts about children are making you feel bad, and you might not want to tell the psychologist about these thoughts, because you may be embarrassed or ashamed about them.
